VoteVets PAC Endorses Carper for Re-Election

Dover, DE – The largest progressive group of veterans in America, VoteVets, is today endorsing Senator Tom Carper for re-election, this year.

“Tom Carper has been a strong advocate for the working families of Delaware, but also for his fellow veterans, especially when it comes to protecting our GI Bill benefits, and we strongly appreciate his work in the Senate,” said Jon Soltz, Iraq War veteran and Chairman of VoteVets. “But, even more so, with the Trump administration continually looking to reignite war in the Middle East, by violating the Iran Deal, we appreciate Senator Carper strongly standing up to Donald Trump. Our troops are the ones who would suffer, if a war is launched against Iran, and Tom Carper’s been working very, very hard to make sure that does not happen. Finally, as gun violence plagues this country, Tom Carper has been a strong voice against the NRA, and for getting weapons of war off our streets.”

According to his biography, Carper served three tours as a naval flight officer during a hot war in Southeast Asia and for another 18 years in the Naval Reserve as a P-3 aircraft mission commander until the end of the Cold War, retiring with the rank of captain in July, 1991. The following month, encouraged by the administration of George H.W. Bush, then-Congressman Carper led a bipartisan Congressional delegation of Vietnam veterans back to Southeast Asia, helping to pave the way for normalizing relations between the U.S. and Vietnam.
